The World Health Organization (WHO)’s campaign this year is called "1000 cities, 1000 lives". The goals are to open up public spaces to healthy activities (like clean-up campaigns, closing off streets to cars, town hall meetings, etc.) and to collect stories of urban health champions. The emphasis is to raise awareness of the many health challenges related to the world’s increasing urbanization and to promote improvements to urban living conditions that make cities accessible and age-friendly for all residents.
Search to see if your city is one of the 800 who have registered for the campaign so far on their 1000 cities website and find out what events are happening in your area. Watch the stories they have received so far about urban health champions or submit a short video of your own about a local health champion on their YouTube page. Join their cause on their Facebook page.
